Povzetek: The Web encourages new ways of publication and enables inexpensive publishing of content, which could not have been printed on paper. In the article we present a tool for teaching earthquake engineering. It is built around a multimedia database, which contains photographs of damages caused by some of the recent major earthquakes. The photographs were digitised, carefully annotated with keywords and textual description. By browsing the database and by following hypertext links, the user learns basic pitfalls of earthquake engineering and gains the feeling for the behaviour of structures. The system is available both on the Web and on CD-ROM. We believe that by combining state-of-the-art information technology with expert earthquake engineering knowledge and experience, we hawe provided a valuable reference source and efficient teaching tool.
