Summary: The results of a study of inelastic seismic response of five-storey steel momentresisting frame buildings are presented. Two different torsionally stiff and one torsionally flexible structural system were investigated. The symmetric structures were designed according to Eurocodes 3 and 8. Asymmetry was introduced by the eccentricity of mass. In addition to 5% accidental eccentricity, as proposed by Eurocode 8, larger mass eccentricity was also applied. Seismic response was determined by linear and nonlinear dynamic analyses of pseudo three-dimensional structural models subjected to six recorded ground motions. Excitation was simultaneous in two horizontal directions. For comparison, uni-directional excitation was also applid. Four different levels of ground motion intensity were used. Results from dynamic analyses were compared with results obtained by nonlinear static ("pushover") analyses. In the paper, the main results are summarised and several conclusions are drawn
